KDP, PUK to support Sayirun-Fatih alliance

The two leading Kurdish parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) welcomed in a joint statement on Tuesday evening the new alliance of Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, the winner of the recent parliamentary election, and Hadi al-Amiri, head of Iranian-backed Hahsd al-Shaabi’s Fatih Coalition.

Sadr’s Sa’eroun Alliance and Fatih Coalition reached an agreement, earlier in the evening to create the largest bloc in the future Iraqi council of representatives.

“The PUK and KDP view the new alliance as a positive step, and we believe that it is a primary roadmap to address the dead end political crisis in Iraq,” reads the joint statement by the parties, adding that they will send a joint delegation to Baghdad “soon”.

“We hope that all sides in Iraq and Kurdistan will focus on the common interests rather than on the disputes,” the statement added.
