Pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias withdraws from Shingal and Zummar

WAAR-DUHOK:

A Kurdish Peshmerga commander revealed on Thursday that the pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias have withdrawn from Zummar (some 60 kilometres north-west of Mosul), and they are planning to evacuate Shingal on Friday.

Qasim Shasho, commander of Peshmerga forces in the predominantly Yezidi town of Sinjar, told reporters that the withdrawal had begun earlier on Tuesday. “They have completely withdrawn from Zummar, but last units are expected to leave Shingal on Friday,” he stated.

According to Shasho, the withdrawal of the Shi’ite forces was decided after talks between Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani with his Iraqi counterpart Haider al-Abadi.
