A powerful magnitude 7.3 earthquake hits Kurdistan

A powerful magnitude 7.3 earthquake Sunday night hit the border areas between the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhilat), killing over 200 people.

The earthquake killed seven in the Kurdistan Region and injured dozens of people, according to the Health Minister Rekawt Rashid.

Photos posted on social media showed severe damages to buildings and properties in different parts of the Kurdistan Region, especially in the border areas with Iran such as Halabja, Darbandikhan, and surrounding cities.
