Iraqi parliamentary election campaigns kicks off in Kurdistan

Election campaigns were kicked off on Sunday morning across Kurdistan Region for the Iraqi parliamentary election which is set for May 12.

The campaigns began a day earlier across Iraq except the Kurdistan Region as Saturday was the 30th anniversary of the Anfal genocide and Kurds refused to launch the election campaigns the same day.

According to the Iraqi Electoral Commission, the candidates can continue their campaigns until 48 hours before the polls open.

A total of 88 electoral factions, made up of 6,904 candidates are running for 328 parliamentary seats.
