A former Iraqi actress in the Miss Universe contest condemned Arab countries for criticizing Israel and said hostility to the Jewish state was rooted in anti-Semitism.
The family of Sarah Idan was forced to leave Iraq after she posted a photo of her on the social networking sites she had gathered with Israel’s representative in the 2017 contest in Las Vegas, managed by Gendelsman.
In Geneva at a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Idan, who lives in the United States, criticized Iraq for not supporting it after the attacks that followed its publication of the picture.
“He asked me to remove them – the sound with Miss Israel – and was forced to denounce Israeli policies. I have received death threats. Since then I have not been able to return to my homeland. Why did the Iraqi government fail to denounce threats, or allow me to free expression? ”
“When I saw the news last month, why did they never talk about the Hamas terrorist organization firing more than 700 rockets at Israeli civilians at the end of one week and that Hamas used Palestinians in Gaza as human shields?”
“Why do not they condemn Hamas for starting attacks? Instead, they only offer those who were killed during the response, in self-defense, and blame Israel. ”
It was the pro-Israel watchdog UN Watch who invited Idan to speak before the Human Rights Council.
