Barzani: People of Kurdistan do not accept any changes to the plan unless there is a better option than the referendum

WAAR-DUHOK:

Once again Iraq is trying to oppress the people of Kurdistan in the name of political majority, stated Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani on Thursday, revealing that the UN Security Council has also been involved in the issue of the independence referendum of the Kurdistan Region.

Addressing thousands in the city of Zakho in a public campaign in support of the due referendum, Barzani stated that a delegation from the countries in the coalition against the Islamic State (ISIS) visited him today to ask him to postpone the referendum.

Their position is clear and they say they back the right of people of Kurdistan but do not agree to the timing of the independence vote, fearing breakout of further troubles, Barzani said.

He added people of Kurdistan do not accept any changes to the plan unless there is a better option than the referendum.

“But if there is no alternative, we will go ahead with our referendum and let come what may,” Barzani remarked.
