Barzani: Holding Referendum is not a pressure card or for political gains

WAAR-DUHOK:

Baghdad should accept Kurdistan Region’s secession as it does not acknowledge partnership, stated Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani.

For talks over the independence referendum of Kurdistan (on September 25 this year), Barzani convened writers and journalists, where he underlined the plan will not be annulled.

He described Kurdistan Region’s participation in rebuilding Iraq in 2003 as a “mistake.

In 2006 Baghdad threatened the people of Kurdistan with tanks, “therefore, holding the referendum is not a pressure card or for political gains,” Barzani remarked.

“We want to break up with Iraq through dialogue,” he said, adding “We have not considered war.”

“We hope to reach agreement with Baghdad over border, water and sky. Our talks with them are not for budget, salary and position but it’s for us to become two good neighbors.”

Barzani reiterated that the independence vote will not affect the war against Daesh (Islamic State).

“We are ready to fight against terror wherever necessary, at the same time, we will not become a threat and danger to any neighboring country.”
